EQUEST ORAL GEL - HORSE WORMER

Over 90% of all small redworm found in your horse will be encysted larvae. These will not show up on an egg count so the level of infection can be difficult to assess. Because of the unique way Moxidectin (the active Ingredient in Equest) works, Equest is the only wormer licensed to control all stages of encysted small redworm in a single dose. (It does not cover Tapeworms.) IT IS SUITABLE FOR FOALS OVER 4 MONTHS AND PREGNANT MARES. It has a remarkably long duration of action worming horses for 13 weeks. Equest also remains in the horses system for a further 2 weeks once treated thereby reducing the horses risk of re-infection and pasture contamination. Equest also has a lower toxicity to dung dwelling insects than the Ivermectin based wormers. This again reduces pasture contamination as these insects help clear the pastures of dung.

Equest
is also highly economical as only 4 single doses are required for year round bot and roundworm control. This long dosing interval may also reduce the risk of resistance building up. Wastage is also reduced due to the unique clear gel formula which melts in your horses mouth meaning there will be no more spat out paste.

If tapeworm
cover is needed you can alternate Equest with Equest Pramox every 3 months or a dose of EQUITAPE (Praziquantel), or a double dose of PYRANTEL (Pyratape P or Strongid P) horses wormer may be given at the beginning or end of the grazing season to complete your annual worming programme.

Dosage and Administration

For oral administration. One Equest Oral Gel 14.8g syringe contains sufficient gel to treat one 700kg horse at the recommended dose rate (0.4 mg moxidectin/kg bodyweight). Each graduation on the calibrated syringe delivers sufficient gel to treat 25kg bodyweight. Use of a scale or weigh tape is recommended to ensure accurate dosing. To avoid overdosing, care should be taken to accurately dose foals, especially low bodyweight foals or young ponies.

Dosing guideline

The persistent activity of EQUEST Oral Gel and its effectiveness against inhibited and developing larvae in the intestinal mucosa enables a reduction in the dosing frequency in strategic parasite control programmes. The recommended dosing interval for the control of small redworm is 13 weeks.

Consult your veterinary surgeon for the appropriate programme for your specific needs.

Further Information

EQUEST Oral Gel
is safe to use in foals over 4 months of age, mares, stallions, ponies and horses.

Mares may be treated at any stage of pregnancy and lactation. Transient adverse reactions may occur at twice the recommended dose in foals and 3 times the recommended dose in adults. The signs are depression, inappetence, ataxia and drooping lower lip 8 to 24 hours following dosing. Symptomatic treatment is not generally necessary and recovery is generally complete within 24 to 72 hours. There is no specific antidote.

EQUEST Oral Gel
is specially formulated to be easily expelled by the syringe plunger. Once in the horse`s mouth, EQUEST Gel liquefies. This facilitates dosing and reduces the risk of rejection.
