Cardiac is for the nutritional support of dogs in cases of:
- Congestive cardiac failure
- Hypertension
Not recommended in cases of:
- Pregnancy, lactation, growth
- Hyponatraemia
- Pancreatitis or history of pancreatitis
- Hyperlipidaemia
Dogs with cardiac disease often show decreased appetite and weight loss. Due to its very high palatability and its high protein and energy concentration, Cardiac diet is adapted for the maintenance of an optimal bodyweight.
Taurine and L-carnitine are essential for myocyte function and they also help maintain heart contractility.
Sodium restriction helps reduce workload on the heart. Potassium and magnesium levels are adapted to optimum levels.
Low sodium diets help reduce fluid retention associated with cardiac disease.
